She appeared in two films in 2008; Honganasu, her first Kannada project and Aayudham Seivom in Tamil. The latter, which featured her as the female lead opposite Sundar C., was panned by critics and she was criticized for accepting that role, with reviewers noting that she had nothing to do in the film, "except roll her eyes". She next played Kani, a fiery, independent sales girl in a textile showroom in Angadi Theru (2010) that released two years after her last venture. The Vasanthabalan-directed tragedy drama focussed on the lives of young employees who work in retail department stores. The film was shot in real location at the Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar, Chennai with hidden cameras, with Anjali disclosing that they wore the uniform of a particular textile company, passing off as real salepeople and selling goods. Angadi Theru opened to rave reviews, whilst also fetching Anjali critical acclaim for her performance, who went on to bag several accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Tamil.She subsequently appeared in two family drama films; S Pictures' Rettaisuzhi, in which she shared screen with veteran directors Bharathiraja and K. Balachandar, and Magizhchi, co-starring and directed by Gowthaman. The latter released to favorable reviews, and Anjali received positive feedback on her performance, being labelled as "impressive", and "almost perfect as the young, a bit mischievous, village girl"; however both films failed to succeed at the box office.

In 2011, she first appeared in Payyans alongside Jayasurya, which marked her debut in Malayalam cinema, followed by a lead female role in the Cloud Nine Movies-production Thoonga Nagaram, in which she starred as an anchor in local television,and a cameo appearance in a song in Ko that also featured other lead actors from Tamil cinema. She was then seen in the small-budget drama film Karungali, directed by Mu. Kalanjiyam. Kalajiyam had signed up Anjali, rechristening her as Sundari then, for a film titled Sathamindri Muthamidu, even prior to Kattradhu Thamizh, followed by three more films, all of which were cancelled.Following her rise to fame post Angadi Theru, Kalanjiyam revived one of the projects, namely Karungali, with Anjali agreeing to part of it, owing to her prior commitments. The film featured her as a childless housewife living in an unharmonius relationship with her husband, and was a critical and commercial failure. While starring in Thoonga Nagaram, she was offered a minor supporting role in another project of the production studio, Mankatha.The Ajith Kumar-starrer, directed by Venkat Prabhu, was Anjali's first high-budget project and featured her as part of an ensemble cast. The film emerged a financial success and Anjali's highest-grossing film in her career, however her role in the film was small and not well received generally. Meanwhile, she was casted by director A. R. Murugadoss to perform a lead role in his maiden production Engeyum Eppodhum alongside Jai, Sharvanand and Ananya, directed by his assistant M. Saravanan. Anjali essayed the role of a bold and dominating nurse, with critics again heaping praise on her performance. The Hindu wrote that she "has given her best [and] steals the show in the climax" while Rediff's Pavithra Srinivasan cited it was her "who clearly walks away with the honours", adding that "the extent of her feelings emerges only at the end, and carries you away" and calling it a "notewothy performance".Moreover, Vasanthabalan's period piece Aravaan would feature her in a cameo appearance, while she has also signed to be part of Sundar C's next directorial, Masala Cafe.

Anjali

Anjali was born in Mogalikuduru, a village in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh as the only daughter to Telugu-speaking parents; she has two brothers. She completed her education up to 10th class in Tamil Nadu, following which her family moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu and she continued her studies, pursuing a degree in Mathematics. After completing her education, she began modeling in Chennai, which paved the way for her entry into the film industry. During one of her modeling assignments, she was spotted by director Siva Nageswara Rao, who offered her a starring role in his Telugu thriller film Photo (2006). Anjali remarked that her parents had aspirations to become actors and that they were "realizing their dreams" through her.

Anjali portrayed a ghost haunting her murderers in Photo, which co-starred two more newcomers, Anand and Bhanu. She played the female lead in another Telugu venture, the romance film Premalekha Raasa (2007), directed by lyricist Kulasekhar, opposite a debutant again; both films garnered negative response,and performed poorly at the box office, failing to propel her career in Telugu cinema. She made her Tamil film debut later that year in Kattradhu Thamizh, directed by Ram, which released to strong critical acclaim. Anjali won critical praise for her portrayal of Anandhi, the childhood friend and love interest of a young teacher-turned-psychopath (enacted by Jeeva). 

 

 A Behindwoods critic wrote that she was "a delight to watch and spellbinds the viewer with her beautiful fresh look and her performance", while Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff described her as "a breath of fresh air" and "the perfect foil to Jeeva's plethora of emotions". Her performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debutante as well as the Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress for that year, and she grew in popularity, leading her to several more offers, albeit the film proved commercially unsuccessful.

Success (2009–present)

She had four releases in 2009; she first starred in another Tamil film Modhi Vilayadu, which garnered mixed reviews and was a financial failure, following which she appeared in the high-budget Telugu historical drama Magadheera, which saw her essaying double roles for the first time. The film, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, received universal critical acclaim, while Kajal, particularly, was praised for her portrayal of a princess in the film. Rediff wrote that she "was quite a surprise package, [...] sweet and charming and looked like an 'ethereal' princess. She carries off both the roles fairly well", while NDTV cited that "Kajal Agarwal is also an asset to the film. She is very apt for the character of the princess. Besides filling the glamour slot, she has proven that given a chance, she too can give an excellent performance". The film was also highly commercially successful and broke several records, emerging as the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time. Magadheera's enormous success turned Kajal into one of the most sought-after actresses in the Telugu film industry and catapulted her into the main foray of lead Telugu actresses. Her subsequent releases Ganesh Just Ganesh and Arya 2 received mixed reviews from critics, while her performance garnered positive feedback.

Kajal's first 2010 release was A. Karunakaran's Darling which featured her alongside Prabhas and received favorable response, becoming a commercial success at the box office, with Kajal receiving her second Filmfare nomination for Best Actress for her performance. In August, she appeared in the Tamil thriller film Naan Mohaan Alla opposite Karthi, which was based on a real life incident and opened to unanimously positive reviews. The film performed well at the box office and was declared a blockbuster. Kajal's final release in 2010 was Brindavanam opposite NTR Jr. and Samantha, which received critical acclaim and went on to become an economical success as well, while fetching Kajal the CineMAA Award for Best Actress. In 2011, she was paired with Prabhas for the second time in Mr. Perfect, directed by Dasaradh. The film opened to positive reviews, while Kajal won appraisal by critics with Times Of India writing, "What is applause-worthy in the movie is Kajal Agarwal's performance. She looks great, expresses well and fits into the role perfectly". In May, she appeared in Veera opposite Ravi Teja that received negative reviews. She subsequently made her Bollywood debut in a leading role with Singham, a remake of the same-titled 2010 Tamil film, opposite Ajay Devgan. The film received mixed reviews from critics, as did her portrayal of a Goan girl Kavya Bhosle, but became a "Super Hit" at the box office, collecting 85 crore (US$18.96 million) within three weeks. She is also making her debut in Kannada in Raju Hasan's Thathasthu opposite Chirag, and would play the female lead role opposite Surya in Maatraan.

Film career

Career beginnings (2004–08):

Kajal made her acting debut in the 2004 Hindi film Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na, in which she enacted minor supporting role as the friend of Diya, the film’s lead, played by Aishwarya Rai, following which she signed veteran Tamil director Bharathiraja's Bommalattam. The film, however, got delayed and released in late 2008.

She made her debut in the Telugu film industry and played her first leading role in 2007 in Teja's Lakshmi Kalyanam alongside Kalyan Ram, which did not fare well at the box office. Later that year, she appeared in the Krishna Vamsi-directed film Chandamama, which opened to positive reviews and became her first major successful film. In 2008, she had her first Tamil film release, Perarasu's action entertainer Pazhani, co-starring Bharath. Following this film, she had two more Tamil releases that year with Venkat Prabhu’s comedy-thriller Saroja, in which she did a guest appearance, and Bharathiraja’s investigative thriller Bommalattam. Although the former went on to become a commercial as well as a critical success, both films failed to boost her career as her roles were too insignificant. Both her Telugu releases, Pourudu and Aatadista opposite Sumanth and Nitin, respectively, neither received positive reviews nor were successul at the box office.

She was born in Mumbai, India to Suman Agarwal and Vinay Agarwal. She has a sister named Nisha Aggarwal, who is appearing in Telugu films as well. She finished her studies in Mumbai and started her modeling career while she was in college.

JYOTHIKA MOVIE CARRIER

Doli Saja Ke Rakhna directed by Priyadarshan was Jyothika’s debut Bollywood movie. Though the movie was not that successful at box office, her performance and talents was soon recognized by Tamil and Telugu film makers. She was approached for Kollywood and offered an appearance role in Vaali, which was her debut Kollywood movie, and she was awarded Best Debutante Filmfare Award – 1999 for her roles.

Her first Tamil movie as a heroine was Poovellam Kettuppar with Surya. A string of successful movies followed, among them Mugavari, Dum Dumk, Dum, and Kushi for which she won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress (Tamil).

In 2003 she starred in Dhool with Vikram, in Kaaka Kaaka with Surya and in Thirumalai with Vijay. Other films include Nagarahavu (Kannada) and Tagore (Telugu). In 2004, she acted in a double role for Perazhagan and received the Dinakaran Best Actress Award and The Filmfare Best actress award for it.

In 2005, she acted in Manmadhan opposite Silambarasan and won praises for her role in it. Chandramukhi with Rajinikanth turned out to be most successful movie of her career as she has played a notable role in this movie. Chandramukhi was a remake of Kannada film Apthamithra which in-turn was a remake from Malayalam film Manichithrathazhu.

Her last films are Pachaikili Muthucharam, Mozhi and Manikanda in 2007. In Pachaikili Muthuchiram, Jothika played a negative role for the first time. She played a more exciting role of a self confident, strong and brave mute and deaf girl in Mozhi, and the movie was a great success. Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan was born to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika on January 28, 1986 in Chennai, India.She also has a younger sister named Akshara, who represents India nationally for Ballroom Latin dancing.Haasan studied at Lady Andal in Chennai, until 10th grade, when she moved to Mumbai to study psychology at St Andrew’s College.
